《德育课本》是民国时期出版的《八德须知》的翻印版，分为一、二、三、四集。本书是对民国之前各种历史、文献、文化典籍中相关故事的搜集汇编，内容涉及中华五千年历史中有关传统品德中孝、悌、忠、信、礼、义、廉、耻八个方面。每种品德之下，分别列举古代圣贤名士嘉言懿行典故近百则，附以民国时期的白话解释，并配插根据故事内容所作的题诗图画。是对青少年和社会大众进行中华民族传统美德教育的一部优良读本。 本书内容宏富，故事生动有趣，颇似小故事大道理之类的励志读物，因此亦可用于幼童发蒙，还可用作家长和教师对子女、学生进行品德教育的教材。
