中國最早出版的畫報類日刊。1909年8月16日（清宣統元年七月一日）創刊。每日一刊。上海環球社編印。期刊主要畫師有孫繼、張樹培、劉純等，主要撰稿人有孫家振、李涵秋、蔣景緘等。每期固定十二頁，多數期數以油光紙石印，設有十餘個欄目，大多與社會時事有關。欄目中《大陸之景物》、《社會小説》（《續海上繁華夢》）、《新智識之雜貨店》、《新聞畫》等貫徹始終。後期新闢而連續刊印時間較長的欄目包括《庚子國恥紀念畫》、《上海曲院之現象》、《鴉片煙毒之現象》、《俗語畫》、《一筆畫》等。該雜誌以寫實的繪畫和文字，反映社會生活和民間習俗，時事性強，並保留了大量關於上海的史料。1910年8月停刊，共發行四百零四期。1999年上海古籍出版社影印重版，八冊
